This week I'm starting something new: a video series that offers online freelance writing tidbits. These are short videos that answer questions I receive from readers. The production value isn't very high, but I hope the content makes up for that. My first online freelance writing tidbit addresses why you don't need a rate card for your freelance writing site.
Clearly, I do need to do some work to fix the sound. Probably need to pull out the old mic. This is a learning experience because, of course, “Perfect is the enemy of good.” I'm just going for it.

Hi Miranda – Through trial and error I’ve come to the same conclusion about rate cards. Flexibility is a big part of the mix. The type and complexity of the assignments, as well as market factors, make setting standard rates impossible. Each engagement is different, so having standard rates just gets in the way. Outstanding advice!
I agree about the impossibility of setting “standard” rates for yourself. It just doesn’t work in today’s in-flux economy. I offer specialized and customized work — and my rates reflect that.
Great video! And I like that saying, “Perfect is the enemy of good.” I used to get analysis paralysis but then I just started going for it. Everything’s working much better now. 🙂
